1st face 2 face interview

Xjmanu 发表于 2007-11-20 21:01:59

First i'd like to appreciate King's referral so that i could have this oppotunity. Actually this was the 1st face to face interview happening in the company i've ever experienced.  I think it was a quite mild one yet i had still exposed quite a few deficiencies.

During the communication with the interviewer, i think my performance at the resume review part and the self introduction part was okay. The pity was that i didn't think i had enough effective information exchange with the interviewer in some open questions. And no valueble questions raised after the formal conversation either. However,  right after the interview i reminded many further thoughts about those questions, but during the interview i was just at a loss. Yet SLOW REACTION is always one of my fatal weaknesses.

Besides, i found there was a great differcence between people in the campus and in the company, so it takes time to adapt oneself to the new environment. People in the company seems more professional and of high efficiency at work, while campus staff usually behave amateurishly when doing their jobs.

And right now i recognized that English is a so significant capability, even much more important than your knowledge backgrounds and professional skills. Perhaps in a more accurate saying, the ability of communication plays the most important role in one's career life. Yet  i still feel that a English conversation between 2 Chinese guys is somehow weird, it takes time to be adaptive to that.

From now i would switch my language channel to English more often, and i'm looking forward to facing the absolutly new challenge comming to my life.

Invitation from TREC

Xjmanu 发表于 2007-10-15 20:27:48

I was informed to have been selected to give a speech about my work in the Spam Track on the TREC conference this year. It seems mission impossible to prepare my passport and visa in less than one month to attend the meeting in US in early November, anyway i will try this possibility. However,  i can regard this a kind of acknowledgement for my previous research work, though it was just a raw beginning. This academic year I would focus my research on stream data processing and try to work out a meaningful paper in this field. What's more, i would start my internship as soon as possible, and this cannot be delayed anymore.
